Tomata saar-goan veg curry of tomatoes-tomato curry:
Tomatoes are also used to prepare one of the famous traditional authentic goan veg curry dish. This dish is carried from the times of our ancestral period when our great grand moms prepared for everyday meal or for religious occasions like weddings, puja etc. It is in fact a still ongoing dish on the menu of goan ceremonies which in times to go shall never go distinct. People of Goa just love this dish and am sure you will also like it. So let's go through the procedure.
Ingredients:
Tomatoes-4-5
Green chillies-3
Coriander leaves-1 cup
Coconut milk -1 cup
Cooked tur deal water-1 cup
Cooked chana dal water-1 cup
Cooked moong dal water-1 cup
Sugar-2-4 tsp
Salt as per taste
Karipatta leaf-1
Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Jeera-1 tsp
Hing-1 tsp or 1 piece small
Oil-1 tsp
Water as required.
Method:
In the cooking vessel add oil, hing, mustard seeds, jeera, green chillies, karipatta, tomatoes. Saute well. Let tomatoes cook and go in a mashy form. Add salt, sugar. Add coriander leaves. Let it cook. Then add tur dal water, chana dal water, moong dal water, coconut milk. Add more water if you want. Mix and let it cook till you get a nice boil. Once its boiled nicely off the gas.
Serve with only rice.
Note:
This is a very thin watery consistency curry and it has to consumed only with rice.
Secondly the all dal waters are not compulsory, if its available, it enhances the taste of Saar,otherwise can be prepared with only coconut milk and water.

Hi.thank you for the recipe..however I would appreciate if u can share the recipe for dal which is cooked with covonuc,n adding drumsticks (other vegetables r optional) my mother in law used to make it..she is from Karwar.

Even the link below will give u an idea of it's preparation. Just replace madi with drumsticks and do not add pepper.
